Common Heat Availability Charge

There has been some confusion as what the ‘Common Heat Availability Charge actually is so we felt an explanation may help….

The Common Heat Availability Charge pays for the costs of distributing the heat around East Village to your building. Although our network of pipes is highly efficient at keeping the heat in there is, inevitably, some loss of energy as it travels around.

In the spirit of openness we show this cost as a separate item on your bill. By contrast the electricity companies hide the costs and losses of bringing the electricity to your home by increasing their unit and standing charges.

In fact East London Energy absorb the first 15% of all losses leaving a much smaller contribution from each resident of a block.
